Integration of foreign workers into Croatian companies and sustainability reporting

Published by: boost, 4. March 2024.

We return to the ESG and the part of the sustainability report, which refers to the part S (Social – Social responsibility, – describes the organization’s relationship with employees, clients, the community in which it operates and all other stakeholders, and covers issues such as human rights, working conditions, diversity and social contribution of the company) in a very current and concrete example.

Companies that are obliged to report on sustainability already know or become increasingly familiar with what area they cover and what their response to such a question is and to what extent and how they cover it.

Expanding Focus of the Social Component

The social component is mainly based through reports on emphasizing human rights, the rights of its employees, bonuses, benefits, health care, sports, inclusion in the community in which the company operates… but soon one of the important topics of this part of reporting will be the topic of foreign workers.

Foreign Workers as a Key Labour Market Topic

Foreign workers are currently the most actual topic in terms of employment, as the labour market in almost all areas lacks labour, it is replaced by the arrival of foreign workers from countries that are quite different in culture and language from countries in our environment, but also across the EU.

According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, in 2023, a total of 172,499 residence and work permits were issued in Croatia to third-country nationals. Also, the fact is that the integration plan at the state level is lacking, and the companies that employ such workers as the workers themselves, unfortunately, are left to fend for themselves and manage “on the run”.

The problems faced by foreign workers, as well as the companies that employ them, are visible at every turn; from ignorance of language and culture to intrusion into business, an environment in which foreign workers are accepted by domestic workers.

Cooperation Between Boost Ltd and Datafit Ltd

The Boost Ltd has recently started an interesting and praiseworthy cooperation with the company Datafit Ltd, which deals with this topic.

Datafit Ltd offers services of integration of foreign workers in Croatian companies through introducing foreign workers to Croatian culture, sensitizing domestic workers to cooperation with foreign workers and adjusting business processes in a way that they are understood by both foreign and domestic workers.

Boost, on the other hand, offers assistance in analyzing, compiling and reporting on sustainability and social responsibility, and this topic could be one of the important topics in the report itself.
